Special Olympics Swindon, Tennis Foundation and Wilts LTA Host a Competition for People with Learning Disabilities

On Wednesday 1st June 2016, Special Olympics Swindon celebrated the great progress LD tennis has made in Swindon by hosting, in partnership with the Tennis Foundation and Wiltshire LTA, a fun and exciting competition day at the Delta Tennis Centre.

The day involved bringing both our senior (16+) and junior (11+) players together, allowing them to participate as one large group for the very first time. Tennis participants from the Swindon Downs Syndrome Group also attended. Coaches Alan Elbourn, Richard Overton and Peter Dodds set up brilliantly inclusive games for the participants to play, gathering points as they went through each of the different drills. One drill included hitting the balls into different target areas, achieving points for every target you hit.

Every participant played brilliantly on the day and it was evident how much hard work everyone had put in in training. The day ended with a presentation from Harry Ash (Special Olympics Swindon) and Richard Ayling (Tennis Foundation) where certificates were given to everyone who attended and medals/prizes were given to the winners and those that put in a huge effort on the day.
