The Aiming High Short Breaks Team supports children and young people with disabilities to access social and leisure activities, whilst providing their parents and carers with a short break from their caring responsibilities. The service is for families of children and young people with disabilities aged from birth to 18th birthday, who are residents of the Borough of Swindon.
Aiming High is a preventative service offering a low level of support without assessment. Anyone can contact the Team for information, advice and guidance about short breaks. The type and level of support provided is tailored to meet individual needs and could range from information and advice about activities, the provision of specific activities for disabled children, including specialist services, or the provision of extra support to enable the child to access an activity e.g. a Support Worker. Extra support is provided to enable the child to access the activity, it doesn’t cover the cost of the activity itself.
The Team also produce the Aiming High Newsletter three times per year, ahead of the main school holidays. The Newsletter contains information about services for children and young people with disabilities and a calendar of accessible activities taking place during the holidays.
