On Sunday the 15th November, a new Special Olympics tennis session launched off with a successful start. The session saw five participants come and play. Plenty of volunteers came to help out head coach, Alan Elbourn, including experienced tennis players from the Downs Syndrome Group tennis club.
The session was set up in partnership with the Tennis Foundation and Wilthsire LTA. Taster sessions have been delivered in SEN schools around Swindon, including Uplands and Crowdys, with the aim of promoting the session to people with learning disabilities aged 11+.
The session will now run every Sunday evening 18:00-19:00 and will hopefully establish itself as a regularly attended Special Olympics session, with the aim of creating a large number of competitive tennis players.
